1800 Gallons Shop

1800 Gallons is a new fashion label seeking to create a more cyclical approach to design through the use of repurposed and deadstock textiles. The 1800 philosophy falls in line with a slow approach; garments are built to last and transform with time. A core collection of classic denim pieces reflects this commitment to longterm wear which can be returned and repurposed time and time again. The label was launched in late 2019 by Emily Tan, a womenswear graduate from The University of Westminster who has developed skills at brands such as Céline, Marc Jacobs and Rejina Pyo. Her love of design was conflicted with common industry practices that continued to glamorise ‘newness’ and ‘image’ whilst dismissing growing environmental and social issues. It felt irresponsible to partake in an industry that was so damaging and so she felt she had to challenge this way of thinking and the concept of the brand was born. The name 1800 Gallons refers to the reported amount of water needed to grow the cotton for one pair of jeans. Garments are developed by hand in Tan’s London studio and are cut in her signature angular style. Each piece is made locally by workers paid a fair wage.
